Muzaffarnagar Live: Death toll rises to 28; BJP, RLD blame SP govt

Muzaffarnagar: The death toll in Muzaffarnagar riots rose to 28 on Monday even as Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav called for restraint from political parties. Four BJP MLAs, one former Congress MP are among the 40 people who have been booked for allegedly inciting communal violence. Uttar Pradesh Governor BL Joshi has sent a report to the Union Home Ministry in which he has reportedly slammed the state government for its inability to contain the violence.
Joshi has also called for more forces in Muzaffarnagar and adjoining areas. Curfew has been imposed in three police station areas - Civil Lines, Kotwali and Nai Mandi- with schools and colleges shut for the next three days in the entire city. The Army is carrying out flag marches in the entire region.
